College and Graduate School Admissions Essay Counseling

Helping students write the stories only they can write

Emily guides clients to write compelling essays in their own voice that reveal their singular personality and experience. Polished, dynamic narratives introduce the applicant as a whole person to admissions committees, showing who they are beyond just grades and test scores. Emily brings years of teaching English composition to her practice by using the revision process as an opportunity to teach students how to be better writers.

About

As a former English faculty member, Emily taught composition to first-year college students for years. She believes the feedback process can be a teaching opportunity, and as part of her work, she helps clients elevate their writing to the standard expected by universities and graduate programs—even before they arrive on campus.

She is also a published writer and editor, and her work has appeared in the New York Times, academic journals, and other outlets. She holds an MFA in creative writing and MA in journalism from a top 15 public university, and she has received competitive fellowships and awards for her teaching and writing.

Services

Common App essay
$800.00

Work begins with a kick-off call to discuss the writing process and start wherever you are. Emily will create a plan that includes brainstorming, writing exercises, and drafting deadlines. After 2-5+ rounds of feedback/revision and as many follow-up calls as needed, you'll walk away with a clean, vibrant 650-word essay. You’ll also have several supplemental essay topics and a roadmap for how to write them.

Complete essay assistance
$2,950.00

With a solid Common App essay and 4-8 supplemental essays, the majority of students will have a stable of dialed-in narratives they are able to revise on their own as needed.

For more hands-on assistance, Emily can project manage essays and applications for your entire admissions process. She will provide editorial oversight for up to 20 schools total, including checking extracurricular activities, help with small questions, word count assistance, and oversight for each application as a whole.

Supplemental essays
$275.00

These essays are shorter in length than the Common App, and while they still need multiple rounds of revision, the process is slightly different. As a result, more time will be required for applicants who did not work with Emily on the Common App.

Emily’s approach eased my stress and delivered impressive results."

    —Former Client

  • "She is always positive and always has wonderful constructive criticism for my essays. She makes me feel as though she takes time to learn my writing style and genuinely cares about my success."

    —Former Student

  • "[Emily] was very responsive to emails, meaning she'd get back within minutes even if it was just me deciding I hated a story and wanting to cut it. She would talk me off the edge well. She was kind and encouraging, but also did not hold back on providing honest feedback. She'd sit with me for an hour and go through her thoughts on my essays line through line. I'm very proud of my work and could not have accomplished that without Emily, her guidance and her patience."

    —Former Student

  • “In today’s highly competitive college admissions landscape, students have to both meet the required metrics and stand out amongst a crowd of qualified applicants. [Emily’s] coaching contributed significantly to our daughter’s acceptance into her first choice, a top 10 university, along with numerous additional acceptances. I recommend Emily without reservation to families that are seeking both meaningful student growth and admissions success.”

AI is changing our world. But it has not changed the fundamentals of the admissions process. Humans still read every application, and those humans still view essays as the best opportunity to gain insight into students.
